Weird Shadows

Baby Bara Enjoys a Divot

The one downside to being out in nature with wild animals is that sometimes you want to capture a moment, but the lighting makes it nearly impossible. A few days ago, I tried taking pictures of a parakeet, except it was completely backlit by the sun.

Likewise, about a year ago, I tried recording these Capybaras in Barigui Park, but the sun was casting long shadows that would’ve been extremely distracting on video.

Fortunately, it’s not as much of an issue in still photos.

So, enjoy these Capybaras relaxing in the late afternoon sun!

Did You Know…

Lāhainā Noon is a biannual tropical solar event during which the Sun passes directly overhead (at the zenith), causing vertical objects to cast no shadow. This only occurs in regions between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Hawaii experiences this phenomenon annually, and the term “Lāhainā Noon” comes from the Hawaiian town of Lahaina.

Thank you for reading, and have a fantastic day!
