For every tortured genius author who wrote one magnum opus, there are a hundred prolific and popular authors who pen multiple books per year.

In preparation for writing a daily newsletter, I read about a dozen paperbacks from authors who have published multiple novels per year. R. A. Salvatore; Walter B. Gibson, creator of The Shadow and a “compulsive writer” who wrote about 1.6 million words per year; Robert Ludlum, who wrote two books per year in both 1973 and 1974; and Don Pendleton, creator of action-adventure series The Executioner.

Many early Executioner books have alliterative names, often tied to days of the week.

And many of these titles — looking at you, Thermal Thursday — aren’t particularly compelling and don’t even make much sense.

Anyway, that’s what inspired this week’s newsletter theme.
