“Five guys watching one guy dig” is a common stereotype in construction and road work.

If you drive past a worksite, you’ll often see several workers standing around while one person operates heavy machinery. While it may look like laziness, each person usually has a specific role such as spotting to prevent collisions or monitoring underground utility lines.

Watching this Capybara stand by its friend reminded me of that stereotype.

It took 14 years to build the Brooklyn Bridge. Lead engineer John A. Roebling died early in the project, and his son Washington Roebling took over.

Washington later became seriously ill from decompression sickness after working inside the bridge’s pressurized underwater chambers. He ended up directing construction from his apartment window using a telescope.
