A sheep became the first mammal to fly in a hot air balloon. In 1783, a sheep named Montauciel (“climb to the sky”) was put in a hot air balloon along with a duck and a rooster to test whether living creatures could survive flight. The flight lasted about eight minutes, and all three landed safely.
