The CapyTube Merch Store Proudly Presents:
Things Named After Alexander von Humboldt
Alexander von Humboldt was a European explorer who traveled all over the Americas. He visited Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, and the United States.
Humboldt saw Capybaras while traveling the “Rio Apure” in Venezuela, helped Thomas Jefferson define the post-Louisiana Purchase border with “New Spain,” and served as a major inspiration for scientists and naturalists such as Charles Darwin and Henry David Thoreau.
Due to his adventures throughout the Americas, there are many cities, counties, geographical features, plants, and animals named after Humboldt.
Here are a few:
Humboldt County — California, United States
Humboldt penguin — found near Chile and Peru
Sima Humboldt — an enormous sinkhole located in Bolívar State, Venezuela
As always, thank you very much for reading and have a great day!
