Do Capybaras lay eggs?

No. They’re mammals. But, pregnant capys will often go off into the woods or a far away corner of the park and “nest” — a term that’s usually associated with birds and eggs.

Then, a day or so after giving birth, the new mothers will take their babies back to the herd.

And at this point, the baby Capybaras are ready to socialize.

Here’s a recent pic of a whole bunch of young Capybaras all hanging out and grazing together while their vigilant parents keep a watchful eye just out of frame.
