"In Zoology, Science Licks You"
*Nobody Gets Licked In This Email
Did you know that geologists sometimes lick rocks to identify them?
It helps them differentiate between certain minerals that look similar but taste different.
Which leads to an old joke…
“In geology, you lick the science. In zoology, the science licks you.”
No Capybaras licking people or anything like that. But today’s email does contain a big capy family grazing the field. Hope you enjoy seeing them in the picture below!

Jefferson's Mammoth
Thomas Jefferson was extremely interested in woolly mammoths.
And Jefferson’s decision to make the Louisiana Purchase was partially influenced by his belief that live mammoths resided deep within North America’s interior.
In fact, here’s Jefferson’s own words on the matter…
“In the present interior of our continent there is surely space and range enough for elephants and lions, if in that climate they could subsist; and for the mammoth and megalonyxes who may subsist there.”
