Here’s a friendly Capybara mom and her babies.

This happy family lives right by a busy sidewalk, and neither the mom nor the babies has any problem with people being nearby.

And here’s a burrowing owl that decided to nest near a different sidewalk…

This owl has three baby owlets that live in its underground burrow.

And the mother owl spends all day sitting on top of a nearby streetlight, hissing and threating anybody who walks past.

Smart from a parenting perspective, if I were an owl I wouldn’t want random people poking around my nest and bothering the baby owls. But as a human, having an owl with big sharp talons hiss and threaten you is kind of scary.

So, I’ll be avoiding the sidewalk that passes the owl’s burrow. But when the owlets get older, it’ll be exciting to share pictures of them with you!
