Nature's Lawnmower Takes A Night Shift
Apparently Barigui Park used to have sheep living in it. And these sheep would naturally graze the grass, saving the city on landscaping costs.
In 2003, Capybaras moved to Curitiba - capys are often migratory, I once traveled several hundred miles to film a video about Capybaras that live in Londrina, Brazil, only to learn that they’d moved away - and eventually the sheep were retired in favor of the world’s largest rodent.
One of the benefits of letting the capys take over grazing duty was the fact that Capybaras are wild animals and can stay in the park 24/7 while the sheep went home to their pens every evening.
Here’s one of the park’s Capybaras grazing late into the night!
