Have you ever noticed how many holidays there are?

And not just big, national or international celebrations. There are hundreds of holidays centered around food and niche activities. Some examples? July 2nd was “World UFO Day,” July 3rd was “National Eat Beans Day,“ and the entire month of July is “Lasagna Awareness Month.”

There’s a food or activity related holiday almost every day. For instance, tomorrow is “National Blueberry Muffin Day.”

And the day after that is “National Pecan Pie Day.“

Interestingly, there’s a company called “National Day Archives” that allows people and organizations to register their own holiday. And many social movements, business associations, and charities create their own holidays. They do this to raise awareness about an issue ("Test Your Smoke Alarm Day"), celebrate a hobby or interest (like May 18th’s “National Shrek Day” and today’s “Capybara Appreciation Day”), or boost sales and interest in a product (for example, there’s a “National Confectioners Association” who created “National Chocolate Day” to increase chocolate sales).
