I was once asked how I could tell all the Capybaras apart.

Like a rancher who can identify individual cows in a huge herd of cattle, each capy has distinct physical and personality traits. And after spending time around the Capybaras it gets easy to tell them apart.

That said…

There are two capys that live in Villarrica Paraguay’s “Manuel Ortiz Guerrero Park.”

One is the ever-friendly Mandy. The other Capybara is a rugged individualist type who spends its time avoiding people. This capy is generally hard to photograph and even more difficult to approach.

While trying to feed Mandy her breakfast cassava, I noticed that she was a little standoffish. And on closer inspection, I realized it wasn’t Mandy at all — it was The Grump!
