Friday Night Feast At The Hydroelectric Station

A Dam Good Time!

The hydroelectric power plant in Barigui Park is beautiful at night.

Bright lights illuminate the dam. And standing near this small power generation facility gives you an excellent view of the lake.

Best of all, Capybaras often graze nearby once the sun sets.

These capys were right along the water’s edge enjoying a late-night snack of fresh grass and leafy greens.

Here’s another shot of all the capys gathered around and grazing together…

The CapyTube Merch Store Proudly Presents:

Did You Know…

I’ve long speculated that Capybaras are somehow affected by magnetism, mostly due to an incident involving the dam at Barigui Park. One time, the city was doing maintenance and dozens of Capybaras that I’d never seen before sauntered out of the woods to stand near the dam and its transmission lines.

This may sound silly, but there are many animals that are guided and influenced by magnetic fields…

  • Sea Turtles — Hatchlings imprint on the magnetic signature of their birth beach, allowing them to return as adults.

  • Migratory Birds — European robins, garden warblers, and homing pigeons can see or sense magnetic fields for navigation.

  • Spiny Lobsters — These lobsters use magnetic fields to help them migrate in a long, single-file chain across the ocean floor. Creating an artificial magnetic field can confuse them and make them change course.

Thanks for putting up with my kooky, speculative Capybara belief, and have a wonderful weekend!
