The term “Fun fact” dates back to the 1800’s. However, this term was originally treated as two separate entities (i.e. there was an old newspaper column called "Fun, Fact, and Fancy").

The term “Fun fact” as we know it today was popularized by Wrigley Company, makers of Juicy Fruit and Orbit chewing gum, in the 1970’s when the firm introduced their “Wrigley’s Fun Facts” marketing campaign which utilized trivia to help sell gum!
