Baby Baras Graze Together

An Interesting Grass Fact Too!

In partnership with

Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can give you a perspective you’ve never considered before.

While watching Capybaras graze in the park, my Mom commented that the babies probably enjoy freshly cut grass because it’s softer and sweeter than mature growth.

Perhaps this is common knowledge, but I was surprised to learn that most herbivores prefer freshly mown grass.

You really do learn something new every day!

Did You Know…

There are roughly 390,000 known plant species on Earth. Of those, only about 30,000 are considered edible for humans.

However, “edible” doesn’t automatically mean a plant is a practical food source.

A good example is grass. It’s technically edible, but humans can’t digest cellulose efficiently. This limitation explains why grazing animals (such as Capybaras) have complex stomachs.
