A Great, Lesser-Known City
Capys and Coatis
In the United States, single women own roughly 11.14 million homes, compared to 8.42 million owned by single men. If you want a billion-dollar business idea, a real estate firm that caters to single women seems like a niche with huge potential.
I mention this because one of the most common male fantasies is 100% anti-house.
It’s the idea of being the proverbial “fugitive and vagabond of the earth.” Wandering from town to town or country to country, getting into all kinds of adventures. It’s the premise of countless TV shows, books, and movies. Think the Jack Reacher series, most Westerns, or The Incredible Hulk TV show from the 1970s.
Sometimes I’ll visit a place that’s off the beaten path and think, “Imagine dropping off the grid and hiding out here.”
San Andres Tuxtla, Mexico; Vung Tau, Vietnam; and Londrina, Brazil all spring to mind.
Which leads to today’s Capybara pictures…
I snapped these in and around Londrina a few years back.

The capys themselves were found in nearby Apucarana, a small and interesting town about 30 minutes from Londrina.

The coatis were playing right outside the Catuaí Londrina Shopping Mall, which is located near a beautiful jungle waterfall.

Did You Know…
Speaking of cool but lesser-known locations, Paraty is an interesting city in the state of Rio de Janeiro where the colonial streets were designed to flood on purpose so that seawater would wash them clean. The town was also once a major gold-smuggling port, where criminals, merchants, and local officials illegally shipped and received bullion to avoid the Portuguese Crown’s 20% tax rate.
